Website Development Process

Committing to a prescribed plan of action is essential to a smooth web development process. The following will give you insight into the numerous decisions a Web initiative entails, introduce you to roles and responsibilities that are required, guide you through a higher-level of Website development, and define some of the important deliverables that will be created in the development and production process.

PHASE 1 — DEFINE THE PROJECT
Perhaps the most important stage, the Discovery stage allows us to best understand and define each business units specific requirements for the project. Careful attention is paid to ensure a detailed exploration that includes an inquiry and analysis of each business units objectives.

During this crucial phase of the project, Eyecreate will define our exact strategy for accomplishing our goals. Once we have defined all of our objectives and our plan of attack.

Activities in this stage:

• Defining Business Objectives and Audience

• Flushing Out Site Structure and Information Design

• Identify any additional Back-End Programming if needed

• Defining Content Management Needs

• Conduct an Informal Industry Analysis

PHASE 2 — DEVELOP SITE STRUCTURE
We believe that without good, relevant content, your site won’t be compelling. Content and structure are intertwined—you cannot create one without defining the other. Divisions and categorization of pages is necessarily determined by content, and by the way in which we organize a site’s content defines the backbone for the structuring process.

Activities in this stage:

• Addressing and Organizing Content

• Audit Existing Content

• Development of a Content Delivery Plan

• Developing site structure

• Establishing Naming Standards

• Develop Wire frame (Page-view)

• Addressing Navigation

PHASE 3 — VISUAL DESIGN & REVIEW
With the sitemap and navigation overview complete, the next phase of the project can begin—Interface Design. At this stage, all design elements are created based on the established information, design, tone, and goals set forth in the creative strategy document.

Once the visual direction is approved, the graphic “look and feel” of the site begins. Navigation, interface design and functionality are combined with the visual direction.

During various phases in the creative development process, Eyecreate will conduct testing of the site to make sure the navigation and functionality is intuitive.

Various design directions will be created and presented to key stake holders for review. The designs we present are for overall look and feel, and to determine the overall perception and tone of the site.

Other activities in this stage:

• Creation of HTML Protosite

• Confirm and Testing Flow and Functionality

• Create Graphic Templates

PHASE 4 — BUILD AND INTEGRATE
Phase four is where everything comes together. Production merges content, design, and HTML/CSS and/or Flash production into the completed site. Here we will identify the bugs, prioritize the fixes, get audience feed back, and iron out the kinks.

Activities in this stage:

• Access Project Status

• HTML production

• Slicing and Optimizing Graphic Templates

• Creation of HTML Templates and Pages

• Implementing Light Scripting

• Create and Populate Pages

• Integrating Backend Development
